Riot’s introduction of a new honor rewards has been received positively by the League community as a simple way to identify trustworthy players.
A new player-rated ranking system – combatants will have the option of acknowledging positive play, while potentially punishing those unable to abide by the rules.
To kick things off, players at the start of season were all placed at level 2, with ranks increasing and decreasing based on player actions. Those banned for seven days or more could be demoted to dishonourable, while players who attain higher ranks will be eligible for new rewards.
Honorable opponent ribbon – Given to players who placed in the top 10% of individuals (in their region) for being an honorable opponent.
Great leader ribbon – Given to players who placed in the top 10% of individuals (in their region) for being “friendly”.
Great teammate ribbon – Given to players who placed top 10% of individuals (in their region) for demonstrating great “teamwork”.
Great mentor ribbon – Given to players who placed top 10% of individuals (in their region) being “helpful”.
As a commemoration to the older players who also received honors in the past, players with 10 of more honors when the old system retired would receive the badge shown on the left.
Why should you be less toxic?
Being less toxic and an overall more enjoyable person to play with will not only prevent you from being excluded from the end of season rewards, but also allow you to raise your honor level.
A higher honor level will increase the chances of receiving key fragments at the end of a game and give players access to special honor loot capsules.
Honor level 3, 4 and 5 also grants players who have been recently honored a unique banner that’s displayed on the loading screen.
Ranked rewards eligibility and restrictions
While Riot has yet to unveil the exact end of season ranked rewards for this year, there are a few caveats.
Players with an ongoing ban or chat restriction once the 2017 season ends will be ineligible for ranked rewards. Along with this, players who are issued a 7 day+ ban pass before the 22nd of August will also be ineligible. As expected, boosted accounts are also restricted.
From previous years we can predict that players of every rank will receive a special icon depending on their end of season rank. Borders have always been given to players in silver or above in the past, and it is expected Riot will continue with this and once again. Players ranked gold or above are likely receive a skin for their efforts also.
The challenger reward is expected to stay, likely being another jacket or souvenir item like the medallions given to all the top challenger players of each region. In addition, Riot may give them special in-game effects through icons, granting them one of a kind recall animations (which is heavily rumoured).
